The Tithe Barn at Bolton Abbey, Yorkshire – Katie & Matthew
The Tithe Barn Bolton Abbey is one of my favourite wedding venues in North Yorkshire, and Katie & Matthew’s recent celebration there was a perfect example of why. Set within the wider Bolton Abbey Estate, it provided an incredible backdrop for a relaxed Yorkshire wedding.
A Relaxed Spring Wedding at Tithe Barn Bolton Abbey
Katie and Matthew’s April wedding at Tithe Barn Bolton Abbey was a beautiful celebration full of emotion, laughter, and classic Yorkshire character.
The venue provided the perfect rustic setting for their day. The combination of historic barn details, rolling countryside, and ever-changing spring weather made it an incredible setting for natural, documentary-style wedding photography.
The Tithe Barn is one of the most sought-after wedding venues in North Yorkshire. The historic barn features exposed stone walls and timber beams which add an inviting warmth and charm to the space, perfect for a wedding celebration. Surrounded by the Bolton Abbey Estate and Yorkshire countryside, it offers endless opportunities for natural portraits and is perfectly suited to rustic barn weddings in Yorkshire.

An Emotional Ceremony & Changeable April Weather at Tithe Barn Bolton Abbey
Katie & Matthew’s ceremony inside the barn was especially emotional, with heartfelt vows, a beautiful reading from Katie’s sister, and plenty of quiet, meaningful moments that made it feel incredibly personal. The combination of rustic architecture, soft light, and stillness in the room created a special, joyous atmosphere.
Outside, April delivered everything Yorkshire is known for… Sunshine, wind, and brief spells of rain which only added to the day and gave the portraits a natural, cinematic feel. After the heartfelt speeches and an incredible wedding breakfast, we stepped out into the grounds of Bolton Abbey Estate for couple portraits, making the most of the soft spring light as it broke through the clouds.
Golden Hour Portraits at Bolton Abbey Estate…
As the day moved towards golden hour, the light completely transformed—warm, directional, and beautifully flattering, wrapping everything in that soft glow that makes this part of the day so special.
Katie and Matthew were completely at ease during their portraits, which made all the difference. Nothing felt posed or forced; instead, they simply enjoyed being together, laughing, chatting, and soaking everything in. From quiet, intimate moments to more playful, energetic interactions as they walked through the Yorkshire countryside, their personalities came through naturally in every frame.
The rustic charm of Tithe Barn Bolton Abbey, combined with such a relaxed and joy-filled celebration, made this an unforgettable day to photograph.
