Middleton Lodge is a wedding venue which is unanimously adored by wedding photographers and all wedding suppliers. The sheer beauty of this venue, its versatility, the exclusivity it offers and calibre of weddings that are celebrated here make it one of the most sort after venues among couples and wedding suppliers alike. As a Yorkshire wedding photographer, I’m lucky enough to have this venue close by.

An overview of Middleton Lodge

Middleton Lodge Estate can be found just outside the market town of Richmond, North Yorkshire. It’s a five minute drive from the Scotch Corner Junction on the M1, forty minutes from Newcastle and an hour from the city of York.

Positioned on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, Middleton Lodge is a 200-acre Georgian Estate. It has a large country house, an iconic 2-acre walled garden and an award winning hotel.

Accommodation for the couple and their guests can be found throughout the estate in the form of cosy bedrooms, family rooms, romantic suites and super suites.

One of the great things about this wedding venue is the options available to couples who choose to tie the knot here. With several different locations for the ceremony and wedding reception on offer it almost feels like multiple wedding venues in one.

The Main House at Middleton Lodge

One of the options available at Middleton Lodge is the Main House & Garden Marquee. The 18th century Manor House oozes elegance and sophisticated charm from both the outside & within. It is a classic country house with a croquet lawn, countryside views, cellar bar and private garden marquee. As a backdrop for wedding photos the Main House and its garden is incredible.

The house boasts four reception rooms and sixteen bedrooms with a sweeping staircase at its centre. Ceremonies can take place in the hallway, drawing room or even outside under a wooden pavilion. The wedding breakfast can be hosted in the dining room which can seat up to 32 guests or for larger parties the garden marquee can accommodate 170 guests.

The Fig House & Walled Garden

My personal favourite space for a wedding celebration at Middleton Lodge and possibly anywhere else. The Fig House & walled garden is as enchanting as it is beautiful. The two-acre walled garden in which the Fig House seamlessly sits is breathtakingly beautiful. You will struggle to find a more magical setting for a wedding and if an English country garden wedding is up your street then you must experience the garden here.

The Fig House itself is a stunning building which sits in perfect harmony with its surroundings. The inside space is bathed in light thanks to the abundance of incredible arched windows and skylights. Exposed brick walls, real fig trees and garden antiques create a gorgeous interior space which looks out onto the stunning lawn and gardens. The Boiler House Bar sits behind the Fig House and offers a contrastingly cosy and comfortable space.

Wedding ceremonies at the Fig House are held in the Boiler House Bar or in the summer months on the terrace and lawn in the walled garden. The wedding breakfast is accommodated in the Fig House which can seat up to 130 guests.

Weddings held at the Fig House enjoy exclusive use of the private walled garden so guests are free to explore and enjoy the garden at their leisure.

If couples can’t choose between the Main House & the Fig House they also have the option to plan their dream wedding across both areas. So they could have their welcome drinks, and ceremony at the Main house and their wedding breakfast and evening do at the Fig House!
