Wedding Day Tips for the Bride…

Start your wedding day with a calm, relaxed morning

Start as you mean to go on… well maybe not exactly, but a chilled morning will set the tone for the rest of the day. If possible, have a slow start. Enjoy a nice breakfast & if there’s time, do something that you will enjoy which will keep you calm. Surround yourself with positive energy and the people who you want to be there.

Make sure you’re hydrated & nourished

Brides can be guilty of putting everybody & everything before themselves, which is the opposite of how it should be! In the excitement of a wedding day the simplest of self care can be neglected. Be sure to look after yourself, don’t forget to drink water to stay hydrated and eat throughout the whole day.

Prepare a wedding day emergency kit

A wedding day emergency kit should include the things you’d rather have & not need then need & not have… A wedding wouldn’t be a wedding without the odd curveball so it’s important to be prepared. Pack tissues, safety pins, a mini sewing kit, plasters, pain killers and anything you might anticipate needing throughout the day. Hopefully you won’t need theses items but if you do, you’ll be glad you thought about them.

Break in your shoes

Your wedding shoes might be the most gorgeous shoes in the world but if you’re in discomfort or even pain whilst wearing them you’ll want them off your feet & fast! Make sure they fit properly before the big day and break them in a bit by wearing them around the house. You’re going to be walking down the aisle in them and will have them on most of the day so make sure you’re both comfortable & confident wearing them.

Allow buffer time on the buffer time!

As a wedding photographer, this one is super important as it’s crucial for me to keep on track with the timeline. I’ve seen first hand what can happen when things start to run behind on a wedding day & it often has a knock on effect for the rest of the day. Allowing extra time in your timeline for the unexpected can keep you on track and reduce any stress if time does start to get away from you.

Have a second dress for the evening do

I’m not a fan of wedding trends on the whole but this is one I can get behind! Every bride I see who emerges for the night do in a new dress has a whole new energy & I’m down for it! Fresh dress, fresh vibes and a fresh look for the night do… With the added bonuses of having a breather, feeling comfortable and resetting for the party. This one seems like a no brainer and is a great option to consider.

Trust your chosen wedding suppliers

You’ve spent months, sometimes years planning your wedding & choosing your suppliers, leave it to them! I understand that you want everything to be exactly as you dreamt it but when the wedding comes around it’s more important that you focus on enjoying the day and being present. Your suppliers know their jobs inside out and have a wealth of knowledge & experience to do the best job they can for you. One thing I know about wedding suppliers is that they will always, always do everything they can do deliver for you.

Plan some ‘you time’ for meaningful moments

Set aside some time throughout the day for just you and your partner. Weddings are a coming together of people to celebrate your marriage but it’s important for just the two of you to take it in together. Whether it’s a first look, a few quiet moments after the ceremony or the walk back to the venue after a few portraits with your photographer. Be present, breathe & enjoy… these personal moments may be some of your most cherished.

Expect the unexpected & embrace it

It’s a cliché I know but no wedding is perfect & that’s what can make it unique. The trick is to embrace it… all of it, the good and the not so good. If you go into your wedding with this sort of open mindset you will immerse yourself in the day so much more and as a result it will be all the more enjoyable & memorable. We all want everything to be perfect but at the end of the day the most important thing is that you’ve married your soulmate.

Be present & enjoy every moment

‘Your wedding day will go by in the blink of an eye’… Not the first time you’ve been told that, right? It is true though. For something that you’ve been thinking about for so long, it really is over in a flash. Take time to breathe, look around and soak it all in. Your photographer & videographer will no doubt capture moments that you can relive forever but on the day be sure to absorb all the love! It’s your wedding day, one of the most amazing days of your life.. let go of the minor things and enjoy every single moment.
