Whitby Abbey Wedding, North Yorkshire – Lena & Matt

A beautifully intimate whitby ABBEY WEDDING… This was somewhere nestled between an elopement and a micro wedding. I had the pleasure of capturing lena & matt’s special day which was pefect in its simplicity.

Lena and Matthew Eloped to Whitby as it was a sentimental and personal place for them both. With just their Son and a few close friends, they planned a simple ceremony, a wander around Whitby and celebratory meal before returning home.

Being from Whitby, I was super excited to capture Lena & Matt’s day. Whitby is a beautiful seaside town and as a local, I knew where I wanted to get some stunning family portraits.

On this occasion I wasn’t able to photograph the ceremony itself, I met the group immediately after. After congratulating the couple, we went for a wander to capture some photos.

A celebratory glass of champagne on the beach was in order and this was the perfect place to get a few natural portraits. We also went to the iconic whalebones, what’s known to the natives as the ‘keyhole’ and of course Whitby Abbey. These locations were perfect for the kind of photos we wanted and Lena and Matthew made it effortless.

The photos speak for themselves and we had so much fun capturing them together. I enjoy all my weddings but this one didn’t feel like ‘work’ at all. After leaving the group to enjoy their meal I walked to my car with a smile on my face, I couldn’t wait to edit the photos!

I love the energy and atmosphere of big weddings, but there’s something about weddings like Lena and Matthew’s. The intimacy is immersive and you genuinely feel like you’ve been a part of something special. Lena & Matthew’s Whitby wedding will definitely be one I’ll remember for a while.

Feel free to have a look at some of the photos we captured below. If you have any questions about elopements, micro weddings or anything else wedding related, let me know!
